What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are placed over the front of teeth to change the shape or color. They're less invasive than a crown since veneers don’t require us to alter the shape of your existing teeth. Veneers are a good option for issues such as small cracks or chipped, misshapen, uneven, or badly stained teeth.

The Process

If you have gum disease or tooth decay, those problems will need to be addressed before we can apply veneers. We’ll talk to you about any treatment needed before we can move forward with veneers.

We’ll take impressions of your teeth and create temporary veneers. We’ll make any adjustments to the size and shape and, when you’re happy with the appearance, we’ll send the impressions to the dental lab to create your permanent veneers.

When they’re ready, we’ll prepare the surface of your teeth and then apply the veneers using an adhesive. A special light is used to harden the material. The procedure is simple and painless, and leaves you with the smile you’ve always wanted!

How Long Do They Last?

The material used for veneers is quite strong and you can expect them to last ten years or so with proper care. You can treat your veneers the same way you treat your natural teeth—brushing, flossing and Waterpik are all fine. If you grind your teeth at night, we’ll recommend a night guard so you don’t break the veneers in your sleep. Anything that can chip or break a natural tooth can also chip or break a veneer.
