Dentistry does not have to be painful - or scary, even when treatment is necessary. Most commonly, oral sedation (usually in the form of anti-anxiety or "happy pills") is prescribed for relieving anxiety in the hours immediately before a dental appointment. There are a number of sedation drugs that can be taken orally and have been subjected to rigorous research, testing, are safe and have been used for decades.
